Filippis Pizza Grotto

All Fillippi's are great. This one definitely falls into that category. Their specials feed you for at least two days. I have yet to ever have a bad meal there.

Love to go and share dinners. The portions are generous and the bread is fantastic! Make sure you get the house dressing on your salad. Yummy!

Filippis Pizza is an excellent place for casual Italian food. Their pizzas are delicious, and their raviollis are really good too.

Just your average pizza joint, nothing special here, but decent, well priced pizzas galore. Quite family friendly.

If you like deep dish pizza, you'll love this thick crust and lots of toppings. It's a nice family restaurant with hearty Italian cuisine. I like my pizza with a thinner crust, but my husband loves their style!

The italian food is pretty authentic, and the garlic bread is delicious. The atmosphere is nice, but unfortunately the customer service is lacking. It seems like the managers take pride in hiring current or recovering DRUG ADDICTS! With low to no personal hygiene.

First, to be fair, I am more a "New York style" pizza person rather than a "Chicago style" pizza person. That said, I've had a few good Chicago style pies that I've really enjoyed. Filippi's was definitely not one of them. The dough was hard (not crispy) on the outside and soggy on the inside. The dough is hea-vy. The crust on my large combo probably weighed 2 pounds by itself. A raw dough taste was really prevalent despite all the toppings and despite the dough being fully cooked (I think). The sauce was also not good. It tasted like Prego or Ragu bottled "pasta" sauce. I hate sweet sauce and I put a premium on good tomatoes like San Marzanos to start with, but some people like sugar in their ragu. Toppings were typical toppings, nothing special. I ended up dissecting the pizza and just eating the toppings with just a little of the crust.

I've also had their pasta which was disgusting. I asked for a simple linguini with marinara and sausage and peppers. Apparently they don't have an open flame grill (or didn't on that day), so what I got was super soft, limp pasta with pizza toppings on it. Gross.

Service is great, it's a very family style joint. I do enjoy having a few beers here and watching football at Filippi's. I just have some peanuts in my pocket handy to eat so that I don't have to order their food. I'd guess if you like Bucco di Beppo you'd probably like Filippi's, who's quality is most likely better than the bigger chains.

I have been enjoying Filippis Pizza Grotto for years, even well before it moved from the Poway/Espola/Garden Rd location. I have enjoyed their food since I was a kid. Nothing and nobody can beat their pizzas, and the lasagna is to die for. They make the best antipasta salads. I don't know of another who has three kinds of meat on the salad with all the other goodies on a bed of lettuce. We drive drive all the way from the estates in Ramona just to enjoy their food.
You will not be disappointed with the food or the service at your Poway Filippis!

I've never had to wait here for a table. The pizza is normal Filippi's and I enjoy the thick crust. The antipasto is full of cheese and meats and is great. I've never been let-down by the quality of food here
