The Best Around!
Let me first say that Meagan Karnes knows her stuff!! I have had multiple dogs in training with her with issues ranging from severe seperation anxiety to dog aggression. Each was treated with the utmost care and respect to their individual issues. I have been nothing but impressed and amazed with the quality of service and training my dogs and I have recieved. I refer all my friends and anyone I know with training issues to her. She is the best around!

Life Savers!!
was referred to The Collared Scholar by a friend who had her two dogs trained by them when I started to have some issues at my house. My two dogs started fighting over food and toys, and it wasn't feasible to separate them all the time, and I didn't want to limit their access to toys while I was gone at work. Meagan and Katie came out to my house and helped me figure out the problems and gave me a plan to correct them (most of the issues were things I was doing and not actually my dogs!). I decided that the block of private training sessions they offer worked best for me, so I could learn how to better handle my dogs, and after 3 sessions I really started to see changes. We did 6 sessions total and it's like night and day. My dogs now understand that it's not okay to get into squabbles over food or toys and we haven't had any issues in over 3 months. Thank you Meagan and Katie!!

Nothing compares
5 stars (and more if I could!). I have been going to them for about 9 months for help with my dog fear-aggressive ACD. He was about 9 months old at the time, and - instead of showing me a trick, taking my money, and sending me on my merry way - she took the time to show that she CARES about his well-being, and got to know him and build a relationship with him before we started working on correcting the problem. We began coming to socials, and he started to get better and better over time. He is now to the point that he can participate in regular doggy-daycare. She has patiently answered numerous questions for me over the phone, and has done everything in the best interest of me and my dog. She has also graciously loaned me (and I have returned!!) equipment (including muzzles) that allowed me to properly desensitize him and maximize the effectiveness of our training, and a wonderful book about dog body language so that I, too, could develop an understanding as to what my dog is thinking. And because of the knowledge and tools that Meagan has given me, I have started herding training with him, and can bring him around other dogs in our training without incident. She has literally turned my life around with my dog - from really wondering if I was the right person for him to now him being my loyal partner.

They are the only ones that I trust my dogs with while I am out of town, and I look forward to continuing business with her. but this time for the fun stuff!!

The BEST you will find...ANYWHERE!
These girls are absolutely incredible! We have a dog that was suffering from severe dog aggression issues. We did a series of private sessions with Megan and noticed a HUGE improvement in our dog's confidence AND obedience! After the first session, our dog was under control on leash around other dogs. AMAZING! Afterwards, we followed up with their aggressive dog social. My dog now actually PLAYS WITH OTHER DOGS! I didn't think it was possible but Megan proved me wrong. She is caring, attentive and you can tell she absolutely LOVES what she does. You won't find any better. Thanks Megan, Katie and Christine! You guys are awesome!

Dangerously Incompetent
I have not had a good experience with Meagan. My dog and I went to see her about his fear aggression, and after our first conversation I was very impressed with her. After the first round of personal day training with Meagan, my dog was returned to me with both his dew claws completely ripped off. It was explained to me when I came to pick Dexter up by another trainer (Meagan didn't have the decency to tell me herself)that a wire muzzle had been put on Dexter and in effort to get it off, he had ripped his own dew claws off.

Hiding behind a company name change and a contract absolving her of any liability, I have to this day not received a refund or reimbursal for the vet bills.

We at The Collared Scholar sincerely apologize for the experience this customer had. The strive for the highest level of safety and care for our canine and human customers alike. The dog in the review enrolled in a Daycare/Training program at Metropawlitan Dog, a Collared Scholar partner. Collared Scholar trainer, Meagan, worked with the dog. At the time, Metropawlitan Dog was in the process of closing. Upon entering the facility, the dog displayed severe human aggression posing a serious risk to the daycare staff. This aggression was not disclosed to our trainers in the initial consultation - the client came to us for help with dog to dog aggression and was categorized as "timid". Had the trainer been made aware of the level of the aggression, a different course of action would have been recommended. Regardless, our trainer began working with the dog, immediately introducing a wire muzzle to ensure the safety of the staff at the daycare. The dog began aggressively pawing at the muzzle and attempting to rip it off of his face. The trainer removed it as quickly as possible while maintaining her own safety. Unfortunately, the dog did manage to tear two of his nails while trying to pull his muzzle off. The next day, the owner called, extremely angry at the situation. As a good faith effort, our trainer offered a full reimbursement of the training fee ($50). Because the daycare was closing, we informed Dexter's owner that she could come down and pick the check up before the final close date and return the wire muzzle we loaned her so she could work on slow desensitization. She agreed but never showed up. A month later, she called extremely angry, asking for her reimbursement. At this point, and in an effort of good faith, our trainer offered her a personal check as she had never been paid for Dexter's training but the business that had accepted the fee had closed. Dexter's owner refused to drive to our location to exchange the muzzle she had borrowed for her refund check. In order to accommodate her, our trainer offered to mail the check with a self addressed stamped envelope so she could return the muzzle - she simply needed to call with her address. We never heard back. A few weeks later, she called, this time even more angry, bordering on belligerent. She was now demanding $53 in vet bills because she allowed the wound to become infected. Because she never disclosed the human aggression and put our staff at serious risk, because we made every attempt to keep Dexter safe, and because her original contract was with Metropawlitan Dog and not with our company, we declined. She left a threatening voicemail and proceeded to post these reviews. Again, we are sincerely apologetic for the experience Dexter had. We took every precaution to keep him safe at the daycare. However, we have made every attempt to make amends and our efforts have not been met with cooperation. The safety of our canine customers is our top priority.

Wonderful!
My pittie attended basic obedience lessons at The Collared Scholar and they were great. We were having issues with Separation anxiety and the trainers gave me a ton of great info in our first private session. After that, we enrolled in the group class which was great too! We have made great progress and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who asked!
