TEQUILA!!! by Kimberly R. at InsiderPages
The food is great, a bit on the pricey side. BUT you can spend hours just looking at all the bottles on the wall. waiter spent a lot of time chatting with us about the different tequilas! And yes, the parking sucks!

Parking not the best by Annette G. at InsiderPages
Not the best place to park, but the food is really good. Its hard to get to, but once you get there its worth it. Known for the tequilla! Its nice to walk around old town after dinner at this restaurant.

Mexican Food by Amanda M. at InsiderPages
Great tequila section, over 150 different types. Great food and service at the end of San Diego Ave. Its on top of a liquor store that has some parking. Other than that try to find parking on the street. I highly recommend the rolled chicken tacos. In door and outdoor sweating

Best mole around
Great selection of mole, and apparently tequila, which I didn't partake of. Service was a little terse, could have been friendlier. Good portion size. I'd go back for the food, but wouldn't take a guest that I was trying to impress.

Great Tequila, good food
I had a great time, great margarita, a couple of other great shots of tequila, great service, and the food was very good, but was overpriced. I will go back, but will probably go back more often for the tequila menu than for the dinner menu.
if you go, I suggest Don Abraham. it is $15 shot, but smooooooooth needs more o's to express how good it is.

Good Mole, Bland Margaritas, Over Priced
While on vacation my wife and I dined at El Agave on a Thursday evening (8:30PM) only about 4 other tables were occupied in the entire restaurant, the bar was completely empty. It concerned us a bit, but we decided to stay based on all the "great" reviews.

Their Margaritas were nothing special, somewhat bland. We Shared a starter, Quesadillas del Pueblo Frijol - black beans and Manchego cheese; very small empanadas like pastry filled with black beans, could not taste nor see the Manchego cheese, but still tasty. My wife had Crema de Flor de Calabaza soup; large bowl nice delicate flavor, but need more spices to really make it outstanding. I had the Nopalli Nopal salad which was really good, unfortunately the avacodo was very hard and inedible. She had the Mole Rosa de Taxco with chicken, very good and sizable portion served with guava made it very interesting. I had the classic Mole Poblano Don Julio with pork which was excellent flavor, but again needed additional spice to ?light it up.?

Needless to say we were fairly disappointed but all in all a good experience; I?d rate it a 7 on 10 scale, but a 5 as value for money. Overpriced for chicken and pork dishes, portiions were average, sauces need some kick. There are too many other great Mexican restaurants in San Diego. If you time is limited, pass this one up.

Lots of tequila
They have a large selection of Tequila to your liking. It is very expensive to eat there but the ambiance is wonderful. The service is excellent as well.

Agave?..more like dry jerky
Agave is a succulent plant in Mexicothe name drew me in immediately and the "tequila museum" was the clincher. The ambience was great and their collection of tequila, very impressive. I had a salad w/ crab & nopali that was FANTASTIC and I anticipated more to comebut the remainder of the evening was a huge disappointment! I ordered their sea bass special of the evening, at the server's suggestion. It was covered in a very bland adobo sauce and waaay overdone. The menu described that my entree came w/ "grilled pineapple" which amounted to canned pineaple chunks warmed in a fry pan. I fared better than my friend though. She started w/ a cesar salad that was drenched in dressingshe couldn't finish it without making herself sick. She ordered a chicken dish, again, overcooked and drrry. We consoled ourselves w/ ice cream from Cold Stone down the street.

Just ok
Went here on a date. The restaurant is amazing inside with hundreds of tequila bottles lining the walls and some hanging from the ceiling. The food was ok, quite expensive. If you are really in tequila, this would be a fun place to check out, although the dinner is just so-so.

Amazing mole/tequila selection by Melanie W. at InsiderPages
This Old Town restaurant is outstanding in every way. The tequila selection is ridiculous--they must have every type ever made and have a nice display at the bar. The restaurant itself is located on the second floor of an adobe building, there are dark wood beams and it is classy and comfortable. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable and the moles are phenomenal. Highly recommended!
