Really great pizza
Saw this place a while back on Diner's, Drive-ins & Dives and just had to try it. Went to San Diego on vacation last week and wasn't dissappointed. I ordered a pizza over the phone because I looked at their website and knew what they had available, so the wait wasn't too long. I couldn't help but get a few extra slices that I saw in the display case while I waited because they looked so good. I was totally satisfied with all my choices. Tip: order anything with Ricotta cheese on it and it will probably be fabulous. The crust was perfect, crisp on the outside while still being chewy on the inside. Great find and I will definitely go back.

Bad Attitudes - Bad Etiquette - Good Pizza
I love food and I think of myself as a customer oriented person. That's why it makes it hard to write this particular review. The Pizza at Pizzeria Luigi is excellent but their customer service sucks. I feel like I'm in NY when I go there. You get the feeling that "You're lucky" to be eating their pizza. Last night I went their at 6:30pm and they didn't have hardly any pizza in the case. Just a bunch of empty trays and a few mixed slices. ?? I asked them if any pizzas were coming out soon and he said "No" That's it.. One word. I asked why and he said they were taking care of phone orders and didn't have room in the oven. WEAK Apparently at this NY place walking in isn't an option. It's just extra business for them. The sad thing is I live right by Bronx and drove 10 minutes to get to Luigi. I should've stuck with my more polite Boyz at Bronx.. Fast forward two weeks. My good friend went to Pizzaria Luigi and told me about a pretty gross incident. He asked the guy behind the counter for a side of pizza sauce. The guy proceeded to make a side of sauce and before he handed it to my friend, he used his finger to wipe the sauce off the side of the cup and then stuck his finger in his mouth. RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FRIEND.. gross!!!

Pizzeria Lewgi by Shawn W. at InsiderPages
No, that's not a typo because this place is craptastic at best. We visited this place the first Saturday in February, yes they were busy and yes they suffered because of it. This restaurant is dirty to quite dirty and apparently qualifies as a dive under the food networks show Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives. My favorite part of the building itself was experiencing the single bathroom that was quite crude. Lucky for me I did not need to sit down because my knees would have touched the wall. Back to the Pizza, it took over 45 minutes to get the large Capone and once we got it we had the pleasure of biting into the equivalent of a Totino's frozen pizza with a slightly better crust. Yup, throw two of these in the oven and you'll have the Pizzeria Luigi's experience right in your own home. The best part was sitting out on the patio, even though it was cold and raining that day. No sense of order when approaching the counter and hopefully your lucky enough not to have to pull a menu out of the trash. They really need a chalk board or something to list there menu options. Price, anything over a $1.50 for a Totino's is to much. There has to be a better pizza place in San Diego.

Good but not as good as expected. by food l. at InsiderPages
I was told to go here since it was on a food network show. I figured it must be good. Well I mean the pizza was good but I have had better. First, the wait was 45 minutes to cook the pizza. Which would have been OK if they slow cooked it but when I got the pizza the bottom was black. I mean the price was good and the toppings tasted fresh and the sauce was good, but I feel like Hoboken and Olde city grill have better pizza. I guess I went in expecting pizza I used to get back in Philly. So it was good but I would not call it best pizza in San Diego.

Praise from a NY'er
Being from NY, I am picky about my pizzaand this one is some of the best I have had in San Diego by far! I miss Gotham (used to be on 28th street), but this one comes in a close second!

Best Fresh New York Styled Pizza!
Luigi's pizza has a great selection of freshly prepared pizza's that you can get by the slice or by order. Luigi has perfected the crust and topped it with high quality in a great variety of combinations from spinach gorgonzola to fresh tomatoes and basil oh yeah, some of them have tasty meat on top too. It's in Golden Hill and has inside seating as well as a nice outside patio.
