Kung Food

Kung Food has an incredible Bacon Cheeseburger with fries that makes it worth the drive (wherever you're coming from). The prices are a bit high, but you're getting what you pay for. I only wish every selection on the menu were available when they are open.

Swing by the drive thru (yes, I said it) of this vegetarian spot. Then enjoy your meal across the street at Balboa Park. I especially like the "Bacon Cheeseburger" with sweet potato fries. Even if you're not vegetarian, there is little room to complain about this joint.

I came to Kung Food as an omnivore wanting to try organic healthful food. What I got was bad attitudes, an unwelcoming atmosphere and not very tasty food. I did file a complaint with the manager and he offered me a gift certificate as an olive branch. That gesture took Kung Food from one star to two.

Kung Food is a good restaurant to go to when you want to have a quick meal. Everyday low prices. Good selection of combination platters on their menu. The service we had was fast, the waitress was exceptionally friendly and accomodating.

Packaged for the dreadlocked, hippy crowd, Kung Food Express Cafe puts out some down-home vegan food mixed with eclectic selections of varoius ethnic entrees. If you're a vegetarian dying for a meaty bite, this is a good place for you. The daily menu included barbecued tempeh to tofu sausages to "chicken" parmigian. Perhaps some of the veggies were a little overcooked and had lost some of their color, but everything was well seasoned and quite tasty. Finish your meal off with one of the gorgeously decorated cakes or pies. I had a slice of raw coconut cake with a pine nut crust that was quite delicious. Overall, I would recommend Kung Food to the vegetarians out there craving choices and to adventurous meat-eaters.
